ENGINEERING NOTES / PROTOTYPE SUPPLY

Managing obsolete parts in distributed energy hardware BOMs

Lifecycle is a design input

BMS and distributed energy prototypes may depend on monitor ICs, isolators, controllers and power devices selected early in development. Check the manufacturer lifecycle status and published product notices before extending a prototype into a pilot.

An available part can still be obsolete

Remaining stock does not mean a part has a sustainable supply path. Record the exact variant, source documentation and expected build quantity. Distinguish current manufacturer information from a supplier inventory claim.

Plan the validation work

A replacement can affect measurement accuracy, isolation, protection behavior or firmware. Assign an engineering owner to qualification. Component screening alone does not establish system safety or regulatory compliance.
