Specifying power connectors for a hardware pilot build

“XT60, 100 pieces” may look like a complete purchasing request. It still leaves questions about the exact variant, mating half, mounting style and assembly requirement. Resolving those questions before ordering helps keep a pilot material list usable.

Order a complete configuration

Use the manufacturer’s full part number and drawing for each required item. Series labels such as XT30, XT60 and XT90 identify a family, not every configuration in it. Manufacturer portfolios include different line-type and board-mount variants, so the family name alone is not a sufficient order specification.

  • Exact part number for each mating half.
  • Quantity of individual pieces versus complete pairs.
  • Cable-mounted or board-mounted version and orientation.
  • Any required accessories or strain-relief parts.
  • Assembly partner’s accepted packing and handling requirements.

Use the application conditions

Do not select a connector solely from the number in its series name. Review the manufacturer’s applicable rating, dimensions and installation conditions against the actual current profile, wiring and environment. The assembled connection, cable and termination process need to work together.

Where mechanical retention, vibration or repeated mating matters, make those requirements explicit. Confirm them against the exact variant rather than assuming every member of a family has the same behavior.

Check the build process

Ask the assembly partner to confirm board footprint or cable termination requirements before purchasing pilot quantities. Review access for assembly, inspection and rework. If a sample is used for a fit check, record its full variant so the pilot order matches the evaluated item.

Clarify the supply and inspection scope

Before accepting an offer, confirm the manufacturer, complete part number, quantity, delivery window and available documentation. Packaging and marking checks can be included in the supplier’s agreed inspection scope. Any third-party testing should have defined methods, deliverables and charges.

Send a requirement that can be acted on

A useful enquiry includes both mating part numbers, piece counts, the required date and a drawing or reference when the variant is uncertain. State whether you need loose connectors or an assembled cable product; these are different requirements and should be quoted separately.

RuiReach’s power connector sourcing focus includes AMASS XT30, XT60, XT90 and MT/MR families. Exact variants and supply conditions are reviewed for each request. Application approval remains with the customer’s engineering team.
